In the past 5 years the facts and tools necessary for successful reef and marine fish keeping have taken great strides. Systems enabling individuals with little experience or knowledge have exploded. From the ten gallon nano-system on someone's desk top, to full blown 100, 200, 300 and even 500 gallon are considered no problem other than your budget. Thus, more and more Americans are becoming involved. Live Fish Stores selling product abound, even Chain-Pet Stores have gotten into the fray. The internet is packed with information and products well within the financial reach of most of you who would like to get involved in the hobby. The downside to this explosion is that many vendors and retail outlets offering product and livestock are not providing factual information. Many offer product for high prices that do not work properly or efficiently. So called "experience" is often truly based on the SALE rather than the fact. In many cases Chain outlets have poor training programs for their employees, or Independent Stores simply are selling "what makes them more profit". Though the internet provides all the information one could desire, and there are reef and marine livestock forums abounding, when it comes to purchasing chemicals, equipment and livestock off the internet, it is not only confusing, but leads to many new reefers/livestock keepers going downhill on the hobby.
